For Halloween (Monday):
-costumes can be brought to school in a bag… they can be worn starting at 1:00 pm but not before.
-no weapons, make-up, or masks.
-in the afternoon starting about 1:15 pm we'll begin our Halloween parade, starting with the Kindergartens. As they pass each successive class (walking around the outside of the school) then classes tag on the end of the parade. When the parade has picked up every class, we'll file through the gym (great photo op!), and then disperse back to our classes.
-in our case, the Gr. 6s will have a Halloween dance in the gym. Gr. 6 students are encouraged to bring cookies or some other party snack for the dance.
-the Gr. 5s will come back to our classroom where I will have some Halloween activities and we'll have our own party in our class. Gr. 5s are invited to bring some snacks for their party.
No new homework today.
Gr. 5s should be prepared for their French oral test.
Reminder: We will be carving pumpkins for our Gr. 2 Buddy class tomorrow (Friday), and we have been asked to bring carving tools (no knives though) if possible.

Today we met with our buddy class (Mrs. Nykyforuk's Grade 2 class) for the first time. We meet next this Friday (28 October) and if your child can help by bringing a pumpkin carving kit (No knives, please!!!… just the little toothed saws, and the scrapers s.v.p.) the day before, that would be great. If you need them for this weekend, fear not: they can go home Friday afternoon. Our class, being older, will help the younger kids with a design, and with the carving of the Gr. 2s' small pumpkins. We won't have a pumpkin, but the Gr. 2s will. Our job is to support the younger ones with help carving. Hence the need for carving sets! Thanks for your assistance with this. Again, no knives please.
We studied the esophagus today as part of the Digestive System. The core ideas are attached here.
Tomorrow (Friday) is a PD day, so students do not attend.
We had an earthquake drill this morning, and a good discussion thereafter.
We had our Math quiz this afternoon, and I'll hand it back marked next week.
No new homework, however a French quiz on days of the week and months of the year can be expected soon. That quiz will be strictly oral; no spelling, just a focus on comprehension and pronunciation.

Tuesdays and Thursdays are "Daily Physical Activity" (DPA) days, which during the month of October, means 30 minutes brisk walking in the neighbourhood. We've been lucky with the weather co-operating, but we'll be outdoors for 4 more walks… and we go rain or shine. Students should dress for potentially wet weather on Tuesdays & Thursdays. You know what they say: plan for the worst, hope for the best! So far we've been very fortunate.
