Today we witnessed a lovely Gr. 7 Farewell ceremony, with fun speeches, wonderful pictures and music, and of course, very spiffy looking grads!By today your child should have taken home all personal possessions, so nothing is left behind for another day. Speaking of which, tomorrow (Tuesday) is our year-end field trip to Eileen Dailly pool and Centennnial park. We'll leave shortly after 9:00 a.m., and will return for our regular dismissal time of 3:00 pm. Today Ms. Beleski and I were the recipients of your very generous gifts of Park Royal gift cards. It has been a pleasure working with your child, so this present — so kind and generous — is like icing on the cake! Thank you to each and every family for their support and encouragement over the year, as well as for this end-of-year gift. It is very much appreciated!
Thanks to Twitter, I’ve been learning about the implications for using photos in a school setting. Specifically, students often want to use the first pictures they come across, but as an educator, I know those images may have a range of copyright issues. The solution, apart from using pictures they’ve taken themselves, is to use Creative Commons pictures… these are images that the author has already and explicitly put in the public domain, but where attribution is still given. I’ve shown an example here, where the source of the image is clearly given.
We can see when the picture was taken, the photographer’s name, and there is a link to more information.
The web site, Wylio, accesses images on Flickr, which are labled “Creative Commons”.
We did it! Last full week of school is behind us!Next week: Monday (last full day of school for our class at school), including the Gr. 7 Grad assembly.
Tuesday (end of year field trip to Eileen Dailly Pool)
Wednesday: Report cards sent home after our final Sharing Assembly. Students are released! Have a good weekend!
Math homework:Gr. 4 Work on bar graphs and pictographs carries on in-class;
Gr. 5 Handout Lessons 4 & 5 (F) Reminder: Just a head's up: we are organizing a secret "thank you" for Ms. Cathy Fairbank who is retiring this year. See yesterday's post for details about bringing in a single flower this Friday as a thank you.
Homework:Gr. 5 Math: Handout Lesson 3 Pssst. Can you keep a secret? As you may know, Ms. Fairbank is retiring this June. Each class has been asked to come to the library sometime on Friday with each student bringing a single flower to leave with her as a simple thank you. Not a posy, nor a bouquet, mind you. Just a single flower. If you can easily do this, it would be much appreciated. If you don't have access to flowers in your own garden, perhaps you can arrange for a friend in the class who does to bring a flower for your child, so everyone feels like they had a proper chance to say thanks. We are trying to keep this a secret, so by all means stop Ms. Fairbank and say thanks yourself, but please don't mention the flowers.
