Congratulations to Division 4 students for some fabulous singing at the Winter Concerts in the Brooksbank gym today. For those parents and family members who could make it during the day, it was a day full of joy and the true spirit of giving. Many families have chosen to have their refund from the Centennial tickets donated to the school instead, and we thank you for that.
Ms. Beleski and I would like to say a big thank you to Division 4 families for the many generous gifts! We are well looked after, truly blessed! It is an honour to teach your family’s children.
We wish you a very safe, happy and healthy winter holiday. We’ll see you Tuesday 4 January 2011.
-Jane Beleski-Paul Clarke
As the song says: "What a difference a day makes"!
Twenty-four hours ago we were in the midst of being told we had to cancel our Winter Concert, and dealing with the shock of that.
This afternoon we are once again back on track, after quite a bit of behind-the-scenes logistics. You should have received an automated email or phone call with details today announcing our new plans, but just in case this is the first you are hearing about it, our division will be presenting their part of the concert at 11:00 a.m. in the Brooksbank gym on Friday morning.
We realize lots of parents will not be able to accommodate this date and time change, but for the children's sake we felt we just had to find some way to let them share the joy of the season with an audience!
We do hope you can join us! I look forward to seeing you on Friday.
Just a reminder that all Division 4 students need to have blacks and whites to wear for the concert on Friday, as well as a winter toque!
We were informed shortly after school today that a broken water main near Centenial Theatre would have to be repaired, and that would necessitate turning off the water supply to all neighbouring buildings. As a result, the Theatre called us to sadly inform us that the performance tonight would have to be canceled.
Moreover, every other night this week is booked, so regretfully we cannot reschedule.
Mr. Karr and I went to the theatre where we had confimation of all this, as well as learning that the theatre will be closed for other maintenance reasons next month until almost the end of January.
This is one of those things that is beyond our control. Personnel will be on hand at the theatre tonight to turn away anyone who has not heard the word, and signs have also been posted at the theatre.

Tonight is our Winter Concert! Students are to be dropped off, coatless, at the performers' door at the NW part of the Centennial Theatre at 6:40 p.m.
Students wear black & whites, and toques.
If students want to bring a book or a board game, it will be collected in a bin before the finale, and returned to students from class on Wednesday morning.
See you there!
Our Jingle Walk was a great success again this year. We collected a car-full of non-perishable goods, and in total the whole front hallway of the school was awash in donations to the Harvest food bank as a result of all the classes going out into the neighbourhood for food donations. If you were able to help out in some way, thank you!!
No new homework tonight.
French (Gr. 5s only):
"Greetings" quiz (M). This is based on the pages uploaded on December 7 . Students need to know spellings, and be able to translate from English to French and also from French to English.
No other homework.
Centennial Theatre 6:40 pm. on Tuesday night, December 14, 2010. Students in Div 4 need to wear blacks and whites, and a winter toque if possible.
Gr. 4: p. 151 # 1-8 (F)
Gr. 5: p. 173 # 10, 11 (F). Also, Ms. Reichert requests the following:
-start a new Math duotang if necessary
-keep Unit 5 title page and all Unit 5 work
-add about 30 pages of lined or graph paper
-Mr. Clarke has all the paper they can ever use, so if your child needs either lined or graph paper, just have the child ask!
"Greetings" quiz (M)
Our class is singing at the beginning of the Jingle Mingle tonight (Wednesday). They should convene with Mr. Karr at 6:00 p.m. wearing black pants/skirts and white tops (and Santa hats if they have one!)
Our next performance is December 14 at Centennial Theatre. Students are asked to again wear black & white, but include a toque please. Students are asked to be dropped off at the "Performer's Entrance" (on the Lonsdale side of the building) at 6:40 p.m. Parents, please drop them off and take their coats with you when you go to sit down in the theatre. Our class performs first, and will thereafter wait downstairs in one of the "green rooms", where they can pass the time with a book, or a simple board game they bring etc. Then, at the end of the night, our class will be called back up onto the stage with the entire school to finish the night with "We Wish You A Merry Christmas". They should leave their books/board games/cards etc. in a tub for that purpose which Ms. Beleski will have. Because the kids get dismissed from the stage, there won't be an opportunity for them to go back and get their books etc., so we will hand those back the next morning in class. Dismissal will take place starting with the Kindergartens and any older siblings
, then Grade 1s and any of their older siblings,
then Grade 2s and any of their older siblings,
and so on. Much of this follows the plan we have had for the last couple of appearances at Centennial Theatre, so while it may not be new, please do familiarize yourself with the plan and go over it with your child. Questions? Call the school, jot a note in your child's planner, or email me (pclarke at nvsd44 dot bc dot ca)
