Dear Parents,

Tonight is our Social Studies "Heritage Project" evening of sharing, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in our classroom. Students from primary classes and intermediate classes got a chance to view our students' work today, and our kids did a great job of presenting their information! Our two judges were kept busy getting around to all the selected students, and tomorrow there will be an announcement with the names of the 6 finalists that will be invited to showcase their knowledge at this Saturday's District of North Vancouver-sponsored "Heritage Fair".

I spoke at length to the Band members of our class, and would like to repeat my thoughts here in the hopes that it might allay some stress. When Sutherland High School discovered they had to reschedule the Elementary Band Concert night to tonight, that unfortunately put all the elementary bank students in our class in a bind. Both events are happening simultaneously. What to do?

I told the band students today that you have to do what your family feels is right. For example, I often attend this band concert to support my students, but I personally feel that I need to be here for the Heritage showcase. In other words, I'm dong what I feel is the right thing… for me.

If students in band are able to perform in their concert, then come to Brooksbank to take part in our Heritage showcase, that would be lovely. If as a family you feel that is not desirable (for example, if an older sibling is performing later and as a family you wish to stay to be a part of the whole concert), that is perfectly understandable. We do not wish to add stress to an already busy evening by insisting that students attend one event or the other, or both! Instead we hope you will feel free to make your decisions based on what is best for your family. There is no judging of students' work tonight, for example… that was completed this afternoon.

We apologize for the scheduling conflict, and hope that the evening turns out to be a great one no matter what your decision.

Regards,

-Paul
