There are two PDFs for you to view today. One is a Social Studies project which is due April 19, 2010, and the other is a notice of a field trip we are going on in a week and a half (Wed. April 7) to the Music Festival at Centennial Theatre. I forgot to hand out the field trip “Informed Consent” notices, so you can either print this one off, or wait till Monday when your child will (hopefully!) come home with same.As for the Social Studies Immigration project, the 2-page long PDF (you will have to scroll down within the PDF window to see both pages) gives the outline and the important due dates. I will be giving the children further instruction as we go along. Some class time will be allocated for research, or organization, but most of this project will be done at home. It would be best if students chose a country which your family has a connection to, but they are free to choose a country that they simply like or want to learn about. They will be working alone on this project (ie: not in student partners). I would like all students to have chosen the country they will be researching by Monday 29 March 2010. Finally, this weekend, specifically Saturday 27 March at 8:30 pm local time, is “Earth Hour”. You’ll find lots of information here: http://www.earthhour.org/ but essentially we all are encouraged to reduce our electrical “footprint” for an hour to take a stand against climate change. The Grade 6s have made a presentation to our class, and so your child may be asking you to participate this Saturday night.
